Biography
Yongqi’s works examine the fluidity of our self-images and relate to the broader human experience of the ambiguousness of identities such as gender, sexuality, and nationality. Through blending allegories, myths, and symbols from both Western and Chinese Classicist traditions, she creates a playful in-betweenness to reinterpret the categories into which we are born to rearticulate the discourse around them.

Yongqi Tang was born in 1997 in China and lives in Seattle, WA. She received her MFA in Painting and Drawing (2022), her BA in Painting and Drawing (2019) from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
