ROLE AT LATITUDE GALLERY NEW YORK
    Founder and Director

Shihui Zhou is a New York–based gallerist, curator, and cultural entrepreneur and the founder and director of LATITUDE Gallery New York. Established in 2020, LATITUDE emerged as a new model of contemporary gallery-making—one grounded in long-term artist advocacy, cross-cultural dialogue, and the belief that emerging voices deserve the same rigor, visibility, and care often reserved for established institutions. With a non-exclusive focus on artists of Asian descent and from the Asian diaspora, Zhou has positioned the gallery as both a professional platform and a warm site of community, where artistic growth is supported with precision, emotional intelligence, and sustained commitment.

Zhou’s leadership is defined by an ability to combine curatorial sensitivity with entrepreneurial clarity. With a background spanning both Chinese and American art education—including studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing and graduate training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago—she brings a transnational lens to contemporary practice and market-building. Since its founding, LATITUDE has gained recognition for presenting formally ambitious and conceptually rigorous work across painting, photography, and interdisciplinary media, while championing artists at pivotal early stages of their careers.

Over the past several years, Zhou has developed LATITUDE into an increasingly visible participant in the national and international art ecosystem through consistent programming, public engagement, and art fair participation. The gallery has presented an active exhibition calendar and has expanded its reach through major fairs including Untitled Art Miami Beach and VOLTA Basel, in addition to cross-gallery collaborations and curatorial partnerships that strengthen a larger platform for diasporic artistic practices. LATITUDE has also been featured in leading art publications and platforms, reflecting its growing role within New York’s new generation of contemporary galleries.

Zhou’s work continues to expand the cultural and professional infrastructure supporting Asian artists in New York. Her practice positions the gallery not merely as a commercial site, but as a space of mentorship, public dialogue, and cultural stewardship—advancing the careers of emerging artists while cultivating collectors and curators through education, trust, and long-term vision. Today, Shihui Zhou is recognized as a key voice shaping the evolving contemporary art landscape in Chinatown and beyond, building LATITUDE as a future-facing institution rooted in care, rigor, and cross-cultural relevance.
